Stones, Sticks, and Words

“Sticks and stones may break my bones,

but words will never hurt me.”

The saying I spent my whole life trying to

agree with, trying to accept.

I realized, I’m not them

and I don’t have to be.

The wrong words, coming from

the right person can kill you.

It could take everything out of you,

word by word.

Breath by breath,

until there’s nothing left…

To know someone is to know

what can hurt them.

To care about someone is to

never use it against them.

“Stones and sticks may break my bones,”

but your words killed me.
